I provide boardings services for dogs only, but rehab and end-of-life care services can be offered to dogs and cats.
Yes. I have 3 dogs myself and I board multiple dogs at the same time (within reason). If your dog is aggressive (towards people or dogs), they, unfortunately, are not a good candidate for my services. If they are extremely energetic, they are also not a good candidate. My services are catered towards senior dogs and dogs with special needs (medically, not behaviourally). If you are unsure if your dog meets the criteria, please reach out and we can discuss. If they do not meet the criteria, I can provide other recommendations for you.
Yes, a 50% deposit will be required in order to secure your pet's spot. This deposit is refundable if spot is cancelled 1 week before their stay. During peak seasons (December, Summer, March break and stat holidays), a 2 week notice will be required for refund. If your pet passes away before their stay, a full refund will be issued- no questions asked.
At Joey's Legacy, we understand that a lot of older dog's may struggle with a weak bladder, incontinence, or not knowing when they have to go. You will not be charged any cleaning fees. However, if you are aware that your dog has incontinence issues, it is required to send your dog with enough diapers for their stay. I can also provide diapers at an extra cost if needed.
As much or as little as you want! I have plenty of beds and bowls, but if your pup has a specific bed or bowl that they love, you are more than welcome to pack it for their stay. The essentials needed are their food, any medications, mobility devices, and treats if they have any allergies. You can provide 1-2 comfort toys for them or heavy duty toys if they are a chewer, but other than that I recommend to leave their toys at home. They get lost quickly and some dogs can be very protective over their toys which can cause problems. Many pet parents will send along lick mats and peanut butter or wet dog food for their dogs if they enjoy these at home. I will always give them their lick mat in a quiet spot away from the others :)
Wherever they're comfy! I believe in treating your dogs like they're family, so if they want to sleep on the couch, on their own bed, on the floor, or in a crate provided by you, that can be arranged.
Unfortunately, I do not have the capacity/availability to facetime pet parents during their dog's stay. If your dog is going to be here for 2+ weeks, I am happy to arrange for a video call or two! I will also send you frequent updates with pictures and/or videos if you'd like!
If your dog has an emergency during their stay, the first thing I will do is try to get a hold of you ASAP. If I cannot get a hold of you, I will try your emergency contact while headed to the nearest emergency clinic that is able to see us, depending on the emergency. If I am not able to get a hold of you before getting to the clinic, I will tell them to do what they need to do to stabilize your dog, unless you tell me you prefer otherwise, before your dog's stay. Whatever is done by the clinic, will be paid for by you in full. If your dog is having an emergency that may not require an emergency visit, I will consult with Telehealth (ex: if your dog is diabetic and is low blood sugar, I will consult a veterinarian virtually and then administer treatment at home if applicable)
